Dear Readers,

Welcome to our 7 th issue of the BioScientist Magazine! We stand at the cusp of a new era in bioscience, where revolutionary advances are reshaping medicine and discovery pushes beyond known frontiers. In this edition, we explore the transformative power of immunotherapy, with Dr. Shivan Sivakumar discussing the evolving role of mRNA vaccines in cancer treatment. We also feature groundbreaking work in opioid detection from Brown University, where technology now delivers precise results in minutes from just a single drop of blood. Psychedelic therapy, once seen as controversial, is re-emerging with renewed potential for mental health and healing.

This issue also addresses pressing global health challenges, including Alzheimer’s disease in the 21st century and its links to factors such as lithium deficiency. We examine the growing understanding of chronic pain and hear from Dr. Willian Abraham Da Silveira as he reflects on his research journey in space biology. Closer to home, we shed light on the enigma of sudden infant death syndrome, unravel the intricate links between oral and cardiovascular health, and explore the complex pathways of PTSD and recovery. We also feature Dr. Samantha Borland’s research on PKCα in vascular pathology, showcasing Salford Science’s distinctive contributions.

Alongside these features, this issue celebrates inspiring career journeys, student achievements, the creative spirit of our Biomedicine Society, and our signature Coffee with Caroline column.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our writers and contributors, whose dedication and expertise continue to shape the vision of this magazine.

We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Sara Namvar, our academic editor, who has been the guiding force behind the magazine. She has offered not only her editorial expertise but also instrumental mentorship, supporting us in our journey to becoming Editor-in-Chief.

We would also like to thank Stephen Morrin from the Library for his support in publishing content on the Janeway platform. We are also seeking enthusiastic creatives to join our graphics and design team to help bring the Issuu edition of this issue to life.

It is our pleasure to share this issue with you, and we hope you find both insight and inspiration throughout this edition. All content is peer-reviewed and can be cited in your own work. We welcome your feedback and thoughts. Please feel free to reach out to the Editorial Team via email .

Bioscience today is advancing, curious, and revolutionary in shaping a better tomorrow. May this issue inspire reflection on its future and the role you can play. Thank you for joining us!
