During my time as Treasurer of the Biomedicine Society, I had the privilege of managing all aspects of our finances, from processing reimbursements to ensuring we had the funds to bring our ideas to life. One of the standout moments of my role was being part of PassionFlash, one of the biggest and most impactful events our society has hosted.
PassionFlash was a TED-style event that brought together students from across the university to speak about topics they were truly passionate about, whether related to academics, mental health, or personal journeys. It was inspiring to see such a wide range of voices and stories shared on one stage.
Beyond my usual treasurer duties, I also had the honour of co-hosting part of the event, including announcing the winners alongside the wonderful Dr Sara Namvar. It was a proud and joyful moment to celebrate the creativity and courage of our speakers. At the same time, I was campaigning in the Salford Students’ Union elections to represent the School of Science, Engineering and Environment (SEE School) and, Alhamdulillah, I won.
None of this would have been possible without the most amazing team I have had the pleasure of working with: Hirra, Maryam, Areeba, Sana, Subhu, Naveen, Aadya, Amir, Pramitha, Maria, and of course Nafisa, our incredible President who led the society with unwavering dedication while managing her studies. I could not have asked for a better team, and I am so proud of each and every one of them.
A special thank you goes to Dr Sara Namvar for always supporting our society and helping us make these events truly special.
Being part of the Biomedicine Society and PassionFlash has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my university journey. I have loved every moment and I look forward to seeing what next year’s Biomedicine Society will achieve, especially with Nafisa continuing as President. I know she and the team will take it to even greater heights. I will be around campus, always cheering them on and supporting the society in any way I can.
Wishing them all the very best!
