26th February 2021 saw the conclusion and celebration of the Bioart 2020-21 competition: the BioArt final.
Seventeen finalists were selected out of twenty-four entries from students and alumni across the Biomedicine programme and Biomedicine Society by an internal biomedicine staff vote.
The competition started with introductory talks about the beautiful relationship between art and biomedicine, before moving onto a vote on the best 7 pieces from the 17 anonymous finalists by the attendees of the final. From there, an independent panel of judges from the Students' Union; the School of Arts, Media & Creative Technologies; School of Science, Environment & Engineering; and external institutions selected the ranking of the final pieces, the creators of which would become prize winners.
The final rankings are:
1st:
Heartblooms
by Caitlin Owen (£100 prize)
2nd:
Life on the Inside
by Patricia Medeiros (£50 prize)
3rd (jointly):
The Beauty Within
by Zain Mirza (£25 prize) &
Turning the page for a breath of fresh air
by Morgan Brown (£25 prize)
4th (jointly):
